Frequently Asked Question
A: The official language of Costa Rica is Spanish?
A: Costa Rica’s currency is the Colon with the currency code of CRC. You may find the current exchange rate by visiting the GOOGLE EXCHANGE RATE APP. The US dollar is widely accepted throughout Costa Rica so do not go overboard converting dollars to colons. If you plan on exchanging money, we recommend visiting a local bank or check with your hotel. We do not recommend exchanging money at the airport. When you purchase an item in US dollars, the vendor will provide your change in colons. However, please keep in mind they may not have enough change if you are purchasing with large bills. There are many current converter apps for your smart phone which you may wish to download prior to travel.
A: Yes. Credit cards are widely accepted throughout Costa Rica. The following credit cards are accepted for payments at Botanika: American Express, Diners Club, Discover, JCB, MasterCard and VISA.
A: The sales tax is 13%
A: While not required, we strongly recommend you protect your investment with Travel Insurance which provides benefits in the event of trip cancellation/interruption, travel delays, missed connections, medical expenses, emergency assistance, missing or delayed baggage, and accidental death or dismemberment. We recommend TRAVEL GUARD insurance. Simply ask your agent if you would like to have us quote a policy for you.
A: New multi-band GSM cell phones will work in Puerto Jimenez, but you must have international roaming activated with your provider. Please contact your cell service provider for calling plans outside the US.
A: A valid passport is required to enter Costa Rica. Passports need to be in good condition and have a minimum of 6 months validity from the date you depart Costa Rica.
A: Along with a valid passport, US citizens need proof of intent to exit Costa Rica within 90 days. (To prove intent to exit, you must possess a return ticket or a ticket as proof of when you intend to exit the country, commonly referred to as an outbound exit or onward ticket). Non-US citizens should check with their country to determine the number of days they may stay in Costa Rica.
A: It depends on your country of Origin. For example, citizens from the United States and Canada enjoy this privilege. We recommend you check with your local government agency.
A: Tourist visas are typically issued for 90 days. However, during the pandemic, you may be stamped for only the duration of your insurance policy (if applicable) or until the date of your exit flight.
