When planning your visit to the Osa Peninsula, we recommend scheduling your international flight into San Jose, Cosa Rica where the airport code is SJO.  From here we can handle your Costa Rica travel logistics.  Upon your arrival, our team will be there to greet you and transfer you to one of San Jose’s newest hotel properties, The Hilton La Sabana.  The Hilton La Sabana is located near the city central and is one of the tallest buildings in San Jose which offers stunning views of the city.  Enjoy your first night in San Jose.

 Your adventure begins with a breathtaking 45 minute flight from Costa Rica’s Capital City (San Jose) across lush coffee plantations and the spectacular Talamanca mountain range. During your flight you will experience spectacular views of Central America’s largest coastal rainforest and land in the charming town of Puerto Jimenez where the edge of the rainforest bathes in the warm waters of the Pacific. The Botanika staff will escort you from the airstrip to hotel.  After getting settled, you’ll begin your adventure by exploring the property grounds for birds, crocodiles, lizards and monkeys. This provides an opportunity to be acclimated to the area laying out a pathway for you to return during your free time.

After lunch, we’ll catch a 1/2 Day Rainforest tour at Miramar, a location which features different Eco Systems, providing an excellent location for birds and an occasional sloth.

Reptiles and Amphibians - Macro Day

Discover the jewels of the forest. We’ll hunt for the poison dart frogs, red-eye tree frog, snakes and some pretty interesting lizards. As we will be driving to reach our destination through a beautiful rainforest, you may see some birds and perhaps a sloth or two.

All four species of Costa Rica’s primates may be found on the Osa Peninsula. We’ll spend the day focusing on the Central American Spider Monkey, the Mantled Howler Monkey, the White-faced Capuchin, and the Central American Squirrel Monkey.  This tour is a half-day and leaves you with some free time to tour the property for wildlife.

Sierpe River Tour

Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica is well known for its biodiversity due to its numerous types of ecosystems.  This tour takes you on a three hour boat ride on the Sierpe river is a tidal river and makes for a great opportunity to get some great wildlife shots. The platoon boat allows photographers to set-up their tri-pods for shooting as it gently navigates the river. There’s a broad range of wildlife to see which include kingfishers, boat-billed herons, crocodiles, monkeys, purple gallinule and many others.

La Perica Bird Garden offers a wonderful opportunity to discover a variety of plants, birds and sloths.

Upon your arrival back into San Jose, your driver will be waiting to take you back to the international terminal for your flight home. For a same day connection, schedule your International Departure after 1 pm.
